Description

ATHM file: 18th or early 19th century 40" 4 harness loom, probably from New England. The breast beam posts are braced by curved quadrants which also support the cloth beam.

The metal reed (1959.1.7.2) is later than the rest of the loom. The rear right upper corner of the frame is a replacement following a fire in the roof of the storage shed where the loom was kept.

Distinctive features: very narrow batten swords, weaver's seat slotted to diagonal braces, charring.

Fair.
Whole right rear upper corner burned off when roof of SDS' garage caught fire. Now replaced by H.R.

Topcastle and one treadle are new.

1995: Cleaned with water. New wedges and pegs.
